Setting up the components should be important. Because, if you can’t assemble the components of every equipment’s correctly, you may not cast properly. Which can make lose your interest in fly fishing.
Setting up the equipment’s can be tougher. But, if you knew some general knots, the work might be a lot easier for you. Here are some steps which can help you to assemble your fly-fishing components.
First of all, you have to connect the fly reel with the fly rod by sliding the reel over the rod. So that the reel will lock the rod.
Pull off the backing based on the size of the lure on the reel and as well as the weight of the reel.
After that, connect the fly lines with the backing. Use a good type of knot by pulling off a meter of the fly line.
Then, pull off again around 28 meters of your fly line and then cut it.
Spool around that 28 metes flies line onto the reel. Do it the same with the backing by reeling with the fly reel. Do that properly to ensure that you will get proper backing.
After backing, place the fly line to across the knot by keeping the line straight right after reeling in the above step. That will allow the fly line automatically reel it form the lowest part of the fly reel.
So, continue the reeling with the fly line as long as it doesn’t get the outer rim. As the fly line gets the outer rim, do not touch the line. When the line is closed, simply cut off the remaining backing line.
Remove the remaining backing and fly line.
Then, connect the backing with the arbor with doing by knot.
Now, continue keeping the line hard and reel it with the lower part across the fly reel.
Create a loop along with the ending portion of the fly line. If possible, use a harder knot like braid knot. Creating this loop will allow you to replace the leaders in the fishing line.
Then connect the leader with a loop to loop knot.
To connect the tippet with the leader's head, use multiple surgeon’s knots at the ending of the setting up process.
Here you go! You have completely setup the fly-fishing rod, reel, leader, tippet, fishing line correctly. Now, connect an artificial fly on the tippet by using an improved clinch knot.
So, this is it. You successfully assembly all the components. Your fly-fishing gear is ready to fish. As a beginner, if you aren’t able to do the advanced level knots, forget it. Use the basic knots you already know for now. After doing some practices, you will learn all other knots easily.
